"Women have the power to transform societies, and their leadership is essential in tackling the climate crisis. By empowering women, we are investing in a sustainable and equitable future for all." — Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and climate justice advocate

Climate change is one of the long term problems that society faces. More to be exact, the development of human activities always have an impact on the environment that many of us don't really think about the long term impact, when it comes to climate change. The issues that we face right now such as, extreme weather changes, rising sea levels, global temperatures, and environmental degradation are the effects of human activities that avoid the consequences when it comes to climate change. These complex issues are slowly threatening the ecosystems and even affecting human health.

However, as the generation who faced the current problem of climate change or global warming, we are required to be more innovative at giving solutions that picture lots of different perspectives, experiences, and expertise.

Climate change and other environmental issues are a basic human right that every individual could raise awareness regardless of gender. But Ironically, women are consistently underrepresented in the decision making process about climate change solutions, It is stated by Tara Daniel (Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO).

“Only 2% of delegations had equal number of men and women, while 79% delegations had more men than women”

Women themselves play an important role to speak and stand up against climate change according to their unique idea, perspective, positions in communities, and experiences. Women could have a deeper understanding of the local communities, significant role as a leader, multitasking and problem solving abilities. By including women's voices, it could add up and ensure the active participation of new perspectives towards climate actions, inclusive, and impactful solutions for the environment issue of the planet.  Here are some trailblazing women who often speak about climate change:

  • Greta Thunberg: She’s a teen activist and founder of Friday for future. She often talk and actively include at government discussion about policy that could affect the climate change

  • Christina Figueres: She’s a Costa Rican diplomat and former UNFCCC Executive Secretary. She also being an active advocate at international climate negotiations agreement

  • Wangari Maathai: She is a Kenyan Environmentalist and a founder of the green belt movement that focus on reforestation and women environment

Now, we need to support and recognize the critical role women advocating the climate crisis. By participating and supporting gender equality in environmental regulations, making contributions to climate organizations run by women, and elevating the voices of change-making female leaders. By working together, we can build a future in which women in leadership roles are the rule rather than the exception, guaranteeing that climate solutions are practical and accessible to all.
